Measurement of Building Acoustics

There are requirements on sound that must be met in connection with new construction, but also to a degree with remodelling. In Sweden, the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning’s Building Regulations, BBR (BFS 1993:57 with amendments through 2006:22), which refer to two Swedish sound standards, SS 25267 and SS 02 52 68, apply.

ACAD performs most kinds of sound and vibration measurements. All measurements are performed in accordance with Swedish and international standards. We have good collaborating partners and good relationships with instrument suppliers who help us to solve your needs when matters go beyond the normal. We do not just deliver a numerical value but also an interpretation and, if needed, a proposal for action.

Air sound-proofing, step sound levels and sound levels of installations, traffic etc. in rooms should be checked in an existing building before remodelling. In newly-built buildings, properties should be documented with measurements in the project’s quality plan. We conduct all types of building acoustics measurements – such as sound level measurements, sound-proofing measurements and step sound measurements – in accordance with current standards, for example:

SS 25267:2004
Acoustics - Sound classification of spaces in buildings - Dwellings

SS 25268
Acoustics - Sound classification of spaces in buildings - Institutional premises, rooms for education, preschools and leisure-time centres, rooms for office work and hotels

SS-EN ISO 140-4
Acoustics - Measurement of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements - Part 4: Field measurements of airborne sound insulation between rooms (ISO 140-4:1998)

SS-EN ISO 140-5
Acoustics - Measurement of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements - Part 5: Field measurements of airborne sound insulation of facade elements and facades (ISO 140-5:1998)

SS-EN ISO 140-7
Acoustics - Measurement of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements - Part 7: Field measurements of impact sound insulation of floors (ISO 140-7:1998)

SS-EN ISO 16032:2004
Acoustics - Measurement of sound pressure level from service equipment in buildings - Engineering method (ISO 16032:2004)

SS-EN ISO 717-1/A1:2006
Acoustics - Rating of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements - Part 1: Airborne sound insulation - Amendment 1: Rounding rules related to single number ratings and single number quantities (ISO 717-1/Amd 1)

SS-EN ISO 717-2/A1:2006
Acoustics - Rating of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements - Part 2: Impact sound insulation (ISO 717-2/Amd 1:2006)
