Nynäshamn’s Upper Secondary School is rebuilding its gymnasium to a larger auditorium with gradins and music rooms for rock music. The auditorium can be used for performances, e.g. musicals, shows, theatre, etc. It will also be used in the regular education with lectures and such.
At the other end of the gymnasium, an ensemble room, music room, singing room and a foyer area. On top of this, a new fan room will be built. The existing lower area will accommodate, among other things, new dressing rooms, wardrobe, lavatories and foyer.
We have been commissioned by Tengbom Architects to design the acoustic conditions for the new rooms. The main points have been to adapt the room acoustics to the activities in the auditorium, and to dimension measures so that the sound insulation between music rooms meets at least 70 dB.

We are working with sound and vibration matters in the new design of the Slussen area of Stockholm.
Rebuilding will bring new routes for car traffic and changes in bus and train terminals. For car traffic, new tunnels, which will connect over a bridge span the Stadsgården dock area with the street Söder Mälarstrand, are being built. It is intended for it to be possible to build residential buildings and buildings for other uses on the tunnels.
The first part of the job is to examine traffic load conditions. What disturbing forces are caused by traffic? Which frequencies and disturbance directions dominate? We have taken stock of disturbances in many tunnels and bridge decks that may be comparable.
The input values will be used to dimension the principles for the sound and vibration damping that is necessary.

The Kasern 2 block at Borås Regiment, I15, is scheduled for transformation into 44 residential flats in five stories. The building was erected about 1910 and has a degree of cultural historical value.
ACAD is working with the Tengbom Group and Vasallen to create a good residential standard. Our acoustics work involves both constructional solutions for the rebuilding project and investigation of the noise situation in the surrounding area.

ACAD is studying sound disturbances from roof fans in neighbouring buildings. The “Barnhusväderkvarnen 37” building was recently built in central Stockholm by PEAB. The central location of these residences near Tegnérlunden Park in Stockholm requires the sound adaptation of roof fans that service offices and other premises.

We are contributing to the improvement of the choir's conditions in the church hall. The choir hear themselves poorly and crosstalk within the choir is poor.
The church hall is unbalanced acoustically, with large parts having much too poor distinctness.
Using reflectors, we are improving the distribution and diffusion of sound in the church hall. Full-scale tests have been conducted with the choir. The results are all positive.

We are developing new outdoor air intakes with a high degree of sound damping for Casamja AB. The sound dampers are installed in the walls or at the top of windows. They are combined with the Omega outdoor air diffuser.
New buildings can be built in locations exposed to noise where one side of the building will be quiet. The other sides must have highly sound-damping air intakes.
Sound damping is done with a new method, with several holes in a sound-absorbent material. This provides advantages in all frequencies.
Damping above Dnew 53 dB is available as standard with a concurrent airflow of approx. 10 l/s at 10-15 Pa. The damping principle does not cut off the air flow, which is common with other damping methods.

The eastern building of the “Brovakten” city block in the north-western part of the Stockholm district of Kungsholmen is situated above the underground railroad tunnel. Just six metres of rock separate the underground from the first flat. The requirements according to the detailed plan are that the sound level in flats when trains pass does not exceed 30 dBA slow.
Vibration measurements in the rock and sound measurements in the neighbouring buildings show that the sound level will be approximately 35 dBA if nothing is done.
ACAD has dimensioned a vibration-damping foundation with a low enough natural frequency to lower the disturbing noise to below 30 dBA. One difficulty is that the building is 25 stories high, so the pressure load on the supports is great.
The best measure would be to put the tracks on an elastic bed, which would have helped all of the existing surrounding buildings. SL - Stockholm Public Transport - have rejected the measure.

The Swedish National Property Board, SFV, is rebuilding the “Loen” city block in central Stockholm as buildings for government departments. The “Loen” city block is being built in three stories, and a light shaft running through the building will make it possible to build more office rooms that receive daylight via the light shaft.
Libraries, offices, large offices, meeting rooms, auditoriums and other spaces are being fitted out in the “Loen” city block. All installations will be new.
ACAD is responsible for acoustic planning in the entire block. This is said to be the SFV's biggest project.

ACAD works with noise charting in the new city district of Annedal in the Mariehäll district of Stockholm.
The area was originally industrial land. The new city district is now being planned for a child-friendly environment with good possibilities for public transportation. The residential buildings will primarily be buildings for multiple families in four to seven stories and a few taller point buildings.
We are currently working with several different construction companies to ensure a high acoustic standard in the residences.

We are taking stock of the acoustics at Olov Lindgren's building in Vanadisvägen in Stockholm. The building consists today of both residential flats and commercial premises. Our job consists of taking stock of the building and contributing with proposals for measures to create a modern acoustic residential standard for future tenants.
The stock-taking also includes vibration measurements in the building to study whether potential disturbances from bus traffic in Vanadisvägen exist.

ACAD is involved as acousticians in redesigning the entrance level at the building Kulturhuset in Stockholm. Kulturhuset is offering culture in many shapes to their three million+ visitors every year. We work with Swedish architects Ahrbom & Partner and create acoustic qualities in the open spaces divided by different types of use.

The parish of Sollentuna is planning for a new church in the centre of Sollentuna, next to the parish home. The church will be constructed out of concrete with a special shape of the church hall which will work well acoustically as well as bring natural light in to the building. The building is being designed for choirs of a hundred people and several hundred visitors.

We are involved in the redesign of the historical outdoor stage at Solliden, Skansen. Architects are Tengbom architects in Stockholm. The stage are one of Swedens most recognised stages and is seen frequently on television. It was originally designed as a stage for non-amplified music and is easily recognised by its trademark shell-like back wall.
As the performances has changed and the stage has been equipped with microphones and amplifiers, the music now reaches the audience via loudspeakers. The parabolic shape of the back wall is no longer suitable as it causes the sound to spread unevenly.
The stage it self is protected from alteration by as a building of historical and cultural importence. The redesign aims to provide bigger spaces for television broadcasts as well as compensating for the original designs peculiaritys.

The Stockholm Concert Hall is undergoing extensive remodelling. ACAD-International AB has received the prestigious assignment of creating the right acoustic quality.
The purpose of the project is to switch installations to the FTX system of heat recovery, cooling and humidifying. This affects all of the rooms and many more areas in the building. As we build again, we will also improve the acoustics in the affected parts. This applies among other things to the stage, the choir gallery and the back wall in the Great Hall.

The Post Office’s old head office in Vasagatan in Stockholm and buildings behind it in the same block are being reconstructed as a new government office complex, to be occupied in April, 2008. Here, there are office rooms and open offices, meeting rooms and lecture rooms of many sizes.
We designed a detailed acoustical programme for SFV which was followed in all rooms, with high demands on freedom from disturbance, privacy and good speech audibility.
