Buco Nero restaurant

BUCO NERO is opening an urban indoor market in a former garage.

Caffè Nero won the Restaurant Commission's award Gulddraken in both 2006 and 2007. This fall, the same ownership is opening the larger restaurant Buco Nero below the café.
The new restaurant is being built in a part of the Ford-Kindwall car distributorship's old garage. ACAD has dimensioned measures for the joists so that they meet the guideline values according to the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare's ordinance SOFS 2005:6.

Dining guests can expect a step up in the level of ambition and of prices, while the concrete walls will remind them of the café. From the bar section, the restaurant's own meat storage will be visible, and the fish will be open to view in the fish case. Owner Sacha Smederevac calls it an “urban indoor market in a restaurant setting”.

The restaurant's preliminary opening date is late November.

New art exhibition hall in Marabou Park

Once Sundbybergs city acquired Marabou Park in 2006, the decision was made to invest in remodelling/ additions to the laboratory. In parallel with remodelling, the park will be promoted to its full potential as a nationally significant place to visit.

In addition to an exhibition hall for the renowned art shows, a restaurant is being planned for visitors to the park and art exhibit, a special "pedagogical laboratory" for children and youth, as well as meeting places and galleries.

By means of an underground addition to the laboratory building's basement level, a gallery of about 500 m² and a ceiling height of almost five metre is created. A wide staircase with bleachers on one side leads down to the exhibition rooms. This also serves as seating for concerts, film viewings and other events for an audience of up to 350 people.

A restaurant accommodating 100 people is under development in the basement level of the laboratory building. The restaurant shall maintain high quality and serve as both a lunchroom and place to entertain guests, as well as a café for the visitors to the art exhibit and park.

On the upper ground level of the laboratory building, the big laboratory hall is being remodelled for meetings and conferences.

On the rest of the floor, a pedagogical laboratory is being set up for visits by school classes, who, after visiting the park and exhibits can also have the opportunity for creative activity led by the park's trained staff.

Marabou park studio scholarship activities focusing on publicly displayed art will have access to four studios on the top level of the laboratory building.

ACAD provides the project planning group with room acoustic design in the main gallery hall, restaurant and conference rooms, and also monitors the building acoustic functions and sound levels from the installations. Chief architect is Martin Hansson, WGH Arkitektkontor AB.

Hågelby Amusement Park

A large centre for concerts and activities is being designed in Hågelby Park outside Stockholm. The initiative is taken by Familjen Lindgren AB, previous owner of the famous amusement park Gröna Lund in Djurgården, Stockholm. The aim is to create a park that appeals to the whole family with a fantasy land, water park, concerts etc. The park hopes to attract families from all over Sweden so part of the area will host cabins, hotels, hostels and camping sites.

There are plans for an outdoors stage to host concerts with famous acts attracting a large number of people (20 000+). ACAD has the task to analyze how the stage should be placed to minimize noise that might affect the surrounding residential houses.

Restaurant Imperiet

Imperiet is a newly-built restaurant in the Gamen block in Götgatan. It is located in a newly-built building with homes and student housing next to the Studentskrapan building.

The restaurant puts on a night club and music regularly evenings and nights. This entails that the environment and sanitation authority requires sound-proofing of at least 70 dB for the housing.

The restaurant is on two floors, with a bar on the entrance floor and bars and a dining room in an open plan one floor up. It has been important for the restaurant to maintain a pleasant atmosphere, with music at the bars and yet offer comfortable dining and socialising in the dining room. The open plan places demands on the acoustic design of the room and the placement of the loudspeakers and preliminary adjustment.

Sound-proofing for the housing above has been solved using extra sound-proofing measures that protect the framework. Even the windows are insulated with rubber mountings in the façade.

The result is an active restaurant with several bars where people can mingle and chat in a very good environment and atmosphere. When you are sitting at the tables, you can converse within the entire table group without being disturbed by your neighbours or the louder camaraderie at the bars in spite of the open-plan solution. This is a good restaurant concept which has been followed through in the design of the rooms for the senses of hearing and sight.

And the food is good, too!

The Studentskrapan building, Gamen 8 block

The high-rise building has been converted into student rooms and offices. A very stingy dimension chain dictated by the existing framework resulted in very precise work by all involved to manage sound class B between the student rooms. Among other things, work has involved our building, together with contractors in all of the specialties, a test flat and trimming the design in detail.

The new building houses, among other things, flats, student rooms and a restaurant, Imperiet. The requirement of at least 70 dB sound-proofing toward the flats above has been met in spite of a limited framework due to careful work with the contractors. The flats were designed for sound class B and are very quiet although they are located in the middle of Stockholm.

Animal house, SMI

The laboratory animals are kept in sterile cages with only hard materials such as concrete, tile, steel and glass. In spite of this, we have designed a room for the animals where echo effects and bothersomely long resonance have been damped. The sound levels in all installations and disturbances from other cages have been eliminated – all in order to provide the animals with a peaceful stay.
